Research has shown that when doulas support expectant families during pregnancy, at the labor and birth, and in the postpartum period, outcomes are improved in many areas, benefitting our community.  This is especially true when doulas support parents from marginalized communities, and the doulas are matched with them based on cultural backgrounds, lived experiences, languages and socioeconomic levels. 

Oregon’s recognition of the benefits of doula care brought about the funding of these services to Medicaid members. Several private insurance companies are now on board with reimbursing for them as the data continues to show the tremendous benefits and cost savings incurred.  Thus all families now have access to doula services. 

As the demand for doula care increases, there is a need to increase the available workforce. The Doula Cooperative seeks to train and support more doulas, especially those who represent diverse communities, by offering partial scholarships for doula training and continuing education on a need basis.

Scholarship Fund

Doula Training Scholarships: Supports the costs of training and ongoing mentorship needed for candidates to complete the requirements for state certification as a THW Doula. Once certified, doulas will be able to bill for the services to families and earn a sustainable income.

Program Support

For Parents: Doula matching, community outreach, early parenting education and support

Our Doula Care Team: The Doula Cooperative supports the members of our doula care team by providing mutual support, continuing education, mentorship, feedback, practice updates, and peer review.
